Kumoricon 2014!

I’ve been back from Kumo for about a week now! This is my 9th year attending!

We left early the morning of day 0! Princess of Tea Cosplay and her boyfriend and I rode together. It’s about a 3-4 hour trip to Vancouver from my home town, but it’s a nice peaceful drive! We stopped at Moltinoma Falls on the way, it’s super pretty I’d totally suggest stopping if you find yourself in the area. Once we got to the convention we went down to registration and got our badges! I’ve been pretty spoiled working at conventions for my past couple trips so I haven’t had to wait in reg lines, so even though the wait was really short it felt like forever! xD

After getting our badges we headed to our hotel, it was on the other side of the town, but was much cheaper than any hotel in the area, and we had a car so it didn’t matter too much. After we got settled in we headed to the goodwill for a quick browse and to get Joanne some shoes for the ball and while we were there I happened to find a shakeo which I plan to use as a base for Nonon’s Hat! We then went to a convener belt sushi restaurant, which was super good and headed back for the night!

The next morning we got up super early and headed to the convention! I had to deliver a costume to someone and I always like to get to conventions early anyway. Joanne and I were dressed in our Princess Pony costumes, which was super fun! But Cadence is pretty old now and I’m kinda tired of wearing her, so I don’t know if I’ll be bringing her out again. We had two shoots that morning, one with Collaberitive Exposure  and another with Tom Good! The photos all turned out wonderfully! I then ran into Galactic Hime in her Elsa costume! It is so beautiful! I watched her progress as she was making it and even helped her a little in the planning stages! I was floored by how beautiful it was! I hope I get to cosplay with her in the future!

About halfway through the day I wimped out and changed into San. She’s an easy and comfy costume and pretty fun to wear! She’s a lot different than most characters I cosplay so it’s a nice change! I went to the Ghibli shoot, which was small, but fun. And just hung around the convention. Near the end of the day Joanne and I went to the Cosplay Contest pre-meet. Most of the time there cosplay contests are poorly organized and take forever, but this was actually really quick and easy! Which is super duper awesome!!

The next day I wore Undine Asuna in the morning with Moon and Star Cosplay as Kirito! Joanne made her jacket and it looked wonderful! We had a shoot with FallMoonlitRosePhotography, and got some AMAZING shots! I’m super excited to see them! Before that though we ran into Galactic Hime again! This time in her Asuna costume! It was great to take a few photos with her and her fiance! :D

Right after our shoot I had to run back to the car to change into Serenity! I can’t wear this costume enough, it’s so fun to be in and I feel so pretty in it! Joanne changed into Luna and we went to the Sailor Moon Group shoot! It was super fun, there were tons of beautiful moonies there! I was really looking forward to seeing DragonFly Fashions and her daughter in their Queen Serenity and Princess Chibi-usa cosplays! They were so adorable!! It was great to take a photo or two with them and I hope we can have a real shoot at some point!

After the shoot we went and got some lunch at the farmer’s market! I got a gyro (I do every year) and it was amazing! They make them so well at the market! So, I sat down to have some lunch and who joined me? The wonderful Galactic Hime, her fiance and her friend! They are all so nice! It was great to chill with them for a bit. But then… Hime looked over my shoulder and yelled “RUN!!” and within seconds it was pouring, like absolutely pouring! I was so terrified for my dress, but luckily Hime and her friends helped me pick up my skirts and cape and staff and we ran like hell across the street to shelter! It was terrifying but one of the funniest parts of the weekend! Luckily I didn’t get to wet and neither did anyone else (or at least not irreparably so). Next I headed off for Judging! Judging was set up super well this year! We had 5 minute slots, and there were 3 judges who looked at our costumes. Most of them got up and walked around and flipped seams, which was super nice to see, not to mention they all at some point in the weekend wore a costume, which it’s always nice to see judges wear costumes, alot of the time you don’t see that and so you don’t know their skill, but seeing them in costume really made me know that they knew what they were doing! They also filled out comment cards this time, which was AMAZING! It’s so great to get feedback on my work! We walked around for a bit more, had a moonies shoot with Roget Ratchford then I called it an early night!

The next day was the cosplay contest!! :D In the morning I wore my Usagi costume, just so I wouldn’t be in Serenity all day. I was finally able to walk around and do things! I played some games in the game room (one of my favorite places) and was able to walk around the Artist Alley! I got a super cute Cube Cow plush then went to my shoot with Rose! I was so happy we got to shoot in the beautiful house near the con! I’ve wanted to shoot inside there every year but never got the chance, it was so great to be able to this year!

I then changed into Usagi for the contest! We just chilled around the park for a while before the contest began! What an amazing contest! Everyone’s costumes were so beautiful and the skits were wonderful. I didn’t place, but my friend Princess of Tea did! She actually won first in show and it was her first contest! I was so proud! <3 Afterwords I went to the thai place with my friend Lacey and got an amazing Pumpkin Curry. So freaking good! Then I ran into Vince from Darkian Multimedia and Cospix! We did some ‘Clicky clicky’ and got some beautiful photos! Then Joanne found out and we got even more beautiful photos! I love shooting with Vince, he’s like a magical girl of photography!

The next day I wore San for the whole day. Just something comfortable to walk around in, and I got to shoot with Jason Desomer Photography! I’ve shot with him once before and I’ve improved so much since the last time it was awesome to get to shoot with him again! We got some absolutely amazing photos! I was crawling through bushes and felt like a real wolf princess! I can’t wait to get the rest of them back! After there I just hung out in the park and did some karaoke before we began our journey back home!

While I had a great time at Kumo, I’ve found that I’ve grown out of the atmosphere there.
It’s a bunch of young kids who love anime, which is amazing, but I’m much more into the cosplay aspect now and that’s just not something you get at Kumo.
Maybe next year I’ll head to PAX instead. Who knows? (:

My next convention will probably be NewCon!
Till Next time!
